Latest work: MA Printmaking at CSA

21 Jan

It’s been far too long since I updated my blog, but as you’ll see by the following I have been busy!

I left teaching for adult education in April 2018 and started working more at City College Norwich, teaching on the level 4 Foundation Art Diploma and Level 3 Fine Art Extended Diploma as well as a Learning Supervisor across creative arts. I’ve been involved with fine art, creative media, musical theatre, photography, art and design, music and graphics and am really enjoying working with young creative people!

Alongside work I am still involved in the running of Print to the People in Norwich, which continues to provide affordable open access facilities to local artists, as well as residencies, workshops and events throughout the year. This year is our 10th anniversary so keep an eye out for ways to celebrate and support us!

I have also been studying part time for an MA in Printmaking at Cambridge School of Art (Anglia Ruskin University) where I have been developing my practice and enjoying the challenge of studying at postgraduate level. While still most keen on working with etching and lino cut. I have also been learning more about letterpress, offset lithography and simple book binding and recently did a site-specific project in response to the John Jarrold Printing Museum. As part of this I have started to work away from the wall, experimenting with installations and trying to explore new ways of engaging an audience. However, I do also enjoy the tangible result of working with hand-made processes and the project resulted in my producing an illustrated book that will be printed as a small edition at the museum itself.

In my work now, I am interested in the purpose of the print and its roots in communication and visual language. Using observational drawings, I like to experiment with layering lines and building up tone through repetition and using multiple plates or blocks.  Below are some images of my more recent works, some of which i’ll add to my portfolio… there’s also more to see on my Instagram page @lwhiteprints

Thanks for reading,
