All Craft People Sign This Petition!!!

15 May

In this day and age more and more people are having to rely on their own ability to create, whether making artwork, clothing, furniture or textiles. Large and small businesses rely on these historic skills, why on earth is the government belittling our ability to create especially when so many of us rely on our skills to make a living.

Craft and creativity is appreciated by everyone and applies to everything.

Please sign this petition and help the idiot who started this see sense.

‘Granddad’ SOLD!

4 Mar

Am pleased to say that the charity auction ‘Starting Bid’ went really well on the 28th of Feb, raising £10,000 in total for the Emma Jonathan Fund!! ‘Granddad’ sold for £95 which is great as it’s what I usually sell him for!

I didn’t manage to get down to the exhibition because it was only on for a few days but I should be getting a catalogue sent in the post with all the details 🙂

At Wensum Lodge last week I printed the first stage of a new etching, it will have more detail and textures added to it using soft ground techniques but just thought i’d post the picture so you can see that I am trying to get some artwork done alongside other things!!

Made my trip to the Sainsbury Centre today to deliver ‘Granddad’ for the exhibition next week.  The artworks will be on show from Monday next week and will be auctioned for charity on Thursday evening.

I was pleasantly surprised with my reception at the Sainsbury Centre, I was taken to meet the lady who is running it all and she was really grateful for my contribution so I’m glad I went ahead with it.  Hopefully I’ll find out how much he sold for sometime next week!

Plans in Progress

11 Feb

What with working as a full time chef, a part time print technician and my PTLLS course under way it’s been a busy start to 2013.  I haven’t managed to create new work for a while, and to be honest i’ve been avoiding the workshop in case I get snowed in but I have somehow managed to come up with ideas for a whole new project of work that will be experimental and fresh!  (watch this space…)

I had an email to inform me that I have not got into the Norwich Print Fair this year, which I have mixed feelings about, however I am seeing it as an opportunity to enjoy making for a while, with out any pressures.  Hopefully i’ll get myself organised enough to sort out a solo exhibition on one of the many Norwich wall spaces!!

GOOD NEWS on the other hand, I have been asked to donate a piece of my work to ‘Starting Bid’, a charity auction of local artworks at the Sainsbury Centre, UEA. The auction takes place on Feb 28th at 7pm and the artwork will be on show for a week beforehand so hopefully i’ll get some exposure through that! So i’ll be sending me old Granddad along for the event:

Things are also going really well at Wensum Lodge, working with Gini Hanbury.  Although we currently have to work around the facilities available we are getting ideas together to try and improve the printmaking areas, focussing on how we might make etching more possible.  Gini even has suggested that we should keep an eye out for workshop spaces in town so we could look into setting up somewhere that is more accessible to the general public and artists. This would all depend on funds etc but is something I really wanted to do before I even met Gini!

Overall 2013 is looking to be a busy year but will hopefully help me to make tracks in both my creative and professional careers and as always, i’ll try to keep this old chestnut updated with my progress!
