I’ve been busy!

20 May

I have been really slack at updating my blog lately, but just wanted to show what I have been doing so far this year, on top of teaching and planning new and exciting things at Print to the People (watch this space! http://printtothepeople.com/home)

I have been working on four new etchings, two of which will be on show at this years Norfolk Show. I am working on two copper etchings that will accompany ‘Aidan’s Studio’, these are of closer studies of his workshop and are a combination of hard and soft ground etching techniques. I’ve also just finished two zinc etchings that are part of a new ongoing series of work based on old photos of family in Ireland in the 1930s.

‘A Grand Day Out’ and ‘A Grand Day Out #2’  are now available to buy:£70 mounted, £90 framed – i’ll put them in my portfolio and will also try to get my Etsy shop going again…

Watch this space!!

21 Sep

As my Wednesday evening Printmaking class has been cancelled i’m going to make the most of my time by producing more work before I start teaching in November, so please watch this space!! More lino cuts and collagraphs en route! The printmaking courses are all starting up at Wensum Lodge and i’ve been really excited to meet this year’s learners.  My colleague Gini is off to India soon for adventures and so I will be taking over the beginners, level 2 and level 3 Printmaking courses.. a bit daunting but I’m really looking forward to getting involved!!  It was disappointing this week to hear that the extra Wednesday class couldn’t go ahead but hopefully the 6 learners who did sign up will still have a chance to try printmaking next year.

I made a couple of visits to this year’s Norwich Print Fair and really enjoyed seeing the new work.  I didn’t get in this year but will be applying with my new portfolio in the new year 🙂

Here is the link to the Print Fair website, take a look or even better try and get down there today as it’s the last exhibition day:   http://www.norwichprintfair.co.uk/

Rabbit Collograph

12 Aug

I spent the morning printing the rabbit collograph that I prepared yesterday and have got some good results, although it took me a while to get the right amount of ink right as it is quite a textured surface.  These are the prints so far, but I will be doing some more variations next week to make to most of the design before it falls apart!

Plans in Progress

11 Feb

What with working as a full time chef, a part time print technician and my PTLLS course under way it’s been a busy start to 2013.  I haven’t managed to create new work for a while, and to be honest i’ve been avoiding the workshop in case I get snowed in but I have somehow managed to come up with ideas for a whole new project of work that will be experimental and fresh!  (watch this space…)

I had an email to inform me that I have not got into the Norwich Print Fair this year, which I have mixed feelings about, however I am seeing it as an opportunity to enjoy making for a while, with out any pressures.  Hopefully i’ll get myself organised enough to sort out a solo exhibition on one of the many Norwich wall spaces!!

GOOD NEWS on the other hand, I have been asked to donate a piece of my work to ‘Starting Bid’, a charity auction of local artworks at the Sainsbury Centre, UEA. The auction takes place on Feb 28th at 7pm and the artwork will be on show for a week beforehand so hopefully i’ll get some exposure through that! So i’ll be sending me old Granddad along for the event:

Things are also going really well at Wensum Lodge, working with Gini Hanbury.  Although we currently have to work around the facilities available we are getting ideas together to try and improve the printmaking areas, focussing on how we might make etching more possible.  Gini even has suggested that we should keep an eye out for workshop spaces in town so we could look into setting up somewhere that is more accessible to the general public and artists. This would all depend on funds etc but is something I really wanted to do before I even met Gini!

Overall 2013 is looking to be a busy year but will hopefully help me to make tracks in both my creative and professional careers and as always, i’ll try to keep this old chestnut updated with my progress!

New Year!

3 Jan

With Christmas out of the way I am now looking forward to producing more prints.  I have some ideas on the go but my main focus this year will be to play with more colours!

I had a successful Christmas Fair selling “Read Me” , “Family Tree” and several cards and have realised that my lino-cuts have been quite popular.  I don’t know if this is because they are more affordable but I think I will aim to develop these skills further to create new and exciting work.

I have already heard from the Norwich Print Fair 2013 and am hoping to take part for a third year.  I am now, however quite busy working at Wensum Lodge as a part time Print Technician and will be starting a PTLLS teaching course on the 9th of Jan in the hope of becoming a tutor!

All in all this is going to be a busy year but I hope to make progress and keep on top of blogging as I go!
