Watch this space!!

21 Sep

As my Wednesday evening Printmaking class has been cancelled i’m going to make the most of my time by producing more work before I start teaching in November, so please watch this space!! More lino cuts and collagraphs en route! The printmaking courses are all starting up at Wensum Lodge and i’ve been really excited to meet this year’s learners.  My colleague Gini is off to India soon for adventures and so I will be taking over the beginners, level 2 and level 3 Printmaking courses.. a bit daunting but I’m really looking forward to getting involved!!  It was disappointing this week to hear that the extra Wednesday class couldn’t go ahead but hopefully the 6 learners who did sign up will still have a chance to try printmaking next year.

I made a couple of visits to this year’s Norwich Print Fair and really enjoyed seeing the new work.  I didn’t get in this year but will be applying with my new portfolio in the new year 🙂

Here is the link to the Print Fair website, take a look or even better try and get down there today as it’s the last exhibition day:   http://www.norwichprintfair.co.uk/

All Craft People Sign This Petition!!!

15 May

In this day and age more and more people are having to rely on their own ability to create, whether making artwork, clothing, furniture or textiles. Large and small businesses rely on these historic skills, why on earth is the government belittling our ability to create especially when so many of us rely on our skills to make a living.

Craft and creativity is appreciated by everyone and applies to everything.

Please sign this petition and help the idiot who started this see sense.

Enrol Today!!!

17 Apr

This is a shout out to any one interested in trying their hand at lino cut, monoprinting and collograph printing!

The Printmaking for Beginners course with Gini Hanbury started this week, however if nobody else enrols by next Tuesday there is a good chance that it will be cancelled due to Adult Ed cut backs 😦

The course takes place at Wensum Lodge on King Street, Norwich every Tuesday from 3-5pm and only costs £110 for a term. We have currently got four learners enrolled but we need at least 7 to guarantee that it continues!

Please follow this link to enrol!

Demonstrations!!

19 Mar

I agreed a while back to demonstrate hard ground etching to a printmaking group at Wensum Lodge.  This day has come around really quickly and is in fact tomorrow. While this is exciting and obviously a great experience to help me get into teaching, I am a little nervous about the responsibility considering the use of acid and sharp things.

I am on the other hand experienced and looking forward to seeing what the learners produce.  I spent today preparing the plates by filing the edges and painting liquid hard ground onto each of the 9 plates so that more time is spared for working the image and etching time.  I also mixed the ferric chloride for the first time which is a good thing for a technician to know how to do..

I am also in the process of applying for the Spring Show at the Wymondham Arts Centre and will be submitting two pieces of work. Hopefully i’ll have an opportunity to re-show a couple of my mezzotints and get a bit more exposure!!

I’ll update on how the demo went etc soon 🙂

Plans in Progress

11 Feb

What with working as a full time chef, a part time print technician and my PTLLS course under way it’s been a busy start to 2013.  I haven’t managed to create new work for a while, and to be honest i’ve been avoiding the workshop in case I get snowed in but I have somehow managed to come up with ideas for a whole new project of work that will be experimental and fresh!  (watch this space…)

I had an email to inform me that I have not got into the Norwich Print Fair this year, which I have mixed feelings about, however I am seeing it as an opportunity to enjoy making for a while, with out any pressures.  Hopefully i’ll get myself organised enough to sort out a solo exhibition on one of the many Norwich wall spaces!!

GOOD NEWS on the other hand, I have been asked to donate a piece of my work to ‘Starting Bid’, a charity auction of local artworks at the Sainsbury Centre, UEA. The auction takes place on Feb 28th at 7pm and the artwork will be on show for a week beforehand so hopefully i’ll get some exposure through that! So i’ll be sending me old Granddad along for the event:

Things are also going really well at Wensum Lodge, working with Gini Hanbury.  Although we currently have to work around the facilities available we are getting ideas together to try and improve the printmaking areas, focussing on how we might make etching more possible.  Gini even has suggested that we should keep an eye out for workshop spaces in town so we could look into setting up somewhere that is more accessible to the general public and artists. This would all depend on funds etc but is something I really wanted to do before I even met Gini!

Overall 2013 is looking to be a busy year but will hopefully help me to make tracks in both my creative and professional careers and as always, i’ll try to keep this old chestnut updated with my progress!
